Unrivalled performance and operating costs
Mastenbroek’s HRT Series of reciprocating undercut trenchers uses our own unique, patented undercut technique that offers proven effectiveness in hard rock, where conventional trenchers have never before been a viable option. The result is unrivalled performance and operating costs in both high compressive strength rock and permafrost.
For over two decades, Mastenbroek has designed and built rock trenchers that answer our global customers’ specific demands. We are unique in offering two distinct ranges: conventional rock trenchers and reciprocating undercut trenchers.
Mastenbroek rock trenchers provide the power, precision and productivity our customers rely on, no matter how tough the climate or ground conditions.
Powerful, precise trenching
- The HRT Series uses a reciprocating cutting head, instead of a conventional static one, which operates in front of the self-propelled tracked vehicle
- Here’s how it works:
- The trencher advances allowing the cutting head to penetrate the base of the trench face
- It is then hydraulically raised to excavate the front of the trench, removing spoil at the same time
- The cutting head is lowered and the process reciprocated
Productivity and efficiency
- The reciprocating technique concentrates the number of picks in contact with the trench face, resulting in maximum pick penetration and breakout force
- As the cutting head is raised it ‘locks’ the trencher in place, ensuring that the full force of the picks is applied into the trench face
- Our patented technology also results in rock fracturing into larger boulders, which can be removed in their entirety to avoid unnecessary cutting effort and cost
- Concentrating cutting forces at the leading edge of the cutting head, rather than the entire depth of the trench, enables deep and wide trenches to be excavated with a relatively small machine, which is more fuel efficient and cost effective to operate and can be transported on a single truck
- This ability to excavate boulders in their entirety with a relatively compact trencher also keeps negative environmental impact in permafrost to a minimum
- Side tilt and adjustable track width are ideal for cross country trenching
- Our smaller machines can be supplied with an offset cutting head allowing you to trench closer to buildings or along highways
- Radio remote control is available to position the operator beside the trench for optimum visibility in restricted areas
Reliable performance
- Operating temperatures are kept to a minimum on the cutting head, reducing pick wear and consumption and, in permafrost, preventing an extremely abrasive slurry forming from melted ice
- Generously sized components are robust for excellent durability and productivity
- Our components are from world-leading manufacturers and standard/common to many off-highway machines ensuring global after sales support
- Our industry-leading multi-point filtration and cooling ensure reliable performance over long working days, whatever the climate
