Installation of drainage system in waste disposal areas

A deep trenching machine is used for installing drainage pipe at depths ranging from 4 to 8 metres in a landfill waste area.  The drainage system is installed prior to more waste being transported to the area.  The main purpose of the system is to minimise contamination of the adjacent environment from waste disposal by enabling the following processes to be carried out:

  • Collection of contaminated water prior to mixing with groundwater or before seeping into other adjacent area or rivers.

  • Collection of water from the drainage system for further analysis.

  • Monitoring of waste.

The machine will install a large size drainage pipe at depths ranging from 4 - 8 m.  The trench will be simultaneously back-filled with sand or gravel in order to improve permeability.  The pipe is a corrugated and perforated plastic pipe wrapped in a filter material.  The leachte will be collected from each individual drain for further monitoring and treatment.
