Installation of sand walls
This method is also used for improving soil stabilisation for highway and railway construction.  Deep trenching machines are used to excavate materials up to a depth of 4 – 8 m depending on the underground conditions.  Simultaneously with the excavation, a sand wall is installed through the backfill hopper of the trenching machine.  The idea of this method is similar to that as mentioned in "deep slurry mixing".  However the operation is less complicated but needs considerable amounts of sand and the disposal of excavated materials.
