This method is also used for isolating ground sites similar to the application for the installation of slurry walls.  In this case the deep trenching machine is adapted with a cassette for unfolding plastic sheets into the trench.  In practice, this system is only possible for limited trench depths.  One hundred percent sealing is as yet difficult to obtain and depends on the suitable and/or available welding or sealing methods for these applications.  It is worth noting the development of unfolding technologies for larger depths for working behind trenching machines in soft conditions needs further investigation.
